When people are going green, the most frequent question they ask is which shower gel they should use. Shower gel is actually a great place to start your transition because most varieties work with all skin types, unlike face products. But finding a water based formula like a shower gel without harsh preservatives and detergents is more difficult.
Soap based formulas are more common, but I shy away from them because they are a different pH than your skin. This can make you feel dry and tight. So I usually direct people to one of the only gentle detergent based shower gels with safe preservatives and a reasonable price tag: Deep Steep.
Deep Steep shower gel is a very
reasonable $9.95 for 8oz, so feel free to suds up all over. It's readily
available online at their website and Vitacost, and various Whole Foods and
TJMaxx stores nationwide. It uses the gentlest detergent, coco glucoside, to
keep you clean and food grade potassium sorbate as a preservative. It's in a
soothing aloe base with shots of shea and cocoa butters. But my favorite part?
The tangerine melon and spearmint honeydew scents. And the brown sugar vanilla
might be perfect for the coming holiday season.
