The EWG Releases This Year's Sunscreen Report

I look forward to this report every year. Particularly because it means it's summertime. And that means blueberries and watermelons are in season, and beach trips happen every weekend.

I also enjoy perusing the top rated sunscreens to find something different to try. There are always new brands that emerge, and I look forward to finding another favorite. Some new kids on the block are: Climb On!, Adorable Baby and Dolphin Organics. I plan on doing lots of sampling and experimenting.

The EWG report warns that only 1 in 4 sunscreens earn high marks in safety and efficacy, and nearly one fourth of this year's sunscreens contains retinyl palmitate, an additive that can accelerate the growth of skin tumors and lesions.

Keep in mind that the EWG does not dock points from sunscreens that use nanoparticles. And navigating their database requires a little bit of homework.

And don't fret you're pretty little head, I'll be coming out with my set of tried and tested recommendations for 2012 shortly. Now go outside and frolic in the sunshine.

  2. Oh man, I can't use the Badger sunscreens! For some reason they always look chalky on me and I can never rub in the white residue. Their ingredients are stellar, so I'm glad they work for you.
