Acure Energizing Body Lotion Review

I've been a swimmer my entire life. You know what chlorine does to your skin? Well, let's just say that after swim practice slathering on boatloads of lotion was a ritual.

This means two things: #1 I've always had a embarrassingly large menagerie of lotions, and #2 I am eternally looking for the next best thing. On my quest for a good lotion, I was surprised how few out there are actually clean. Moisturizing doesn't seem like a complicated task, right? Well, lotion is a combination of oil and water, and as we all know, oil and water don't mix. This means that a lotion needs an emulsifier to combine the two. Some examples of emulsifiers are stearic acid, cetyl alcohol, vegetable emulsifying wax and PEGs. These are synthetic chemicals which are often contaminated with 1,4 dioxane. You know what else a formula that contains water means? Water creates the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and mold, which then necessitates the use of preservatives. No bueno.

Acure Organics is the closest I've found to a lotion that is good for your skin. They jam pack their bottle with acai berry, rosehip, fair trade rooibos, aloe vera, coconut oil, and argan oil. I love skin food. And it's that perfect light consistency I've grown so accustomed to. However, they do have vegetable emulsifying wax and food grade preservative potassium sorbate lurking in there.

Fair warning, this is not your rich wintertime cream. It is the lotion ready and waiting for your transition to spring. So if you're daydreaming about a lightweight, über spreadable lotion (yes, I daydream about these things, don't you?), this is the frosting to your cake. It comes in three blissful aromas (lavender & lotus flower, lemongrass & moroccan argan oil, and mandarin orange and mango) as well as an unscented version. I've been using the mandarin orange and mango lotion, and I can testify to the gentle hint of ripe citrus that smells like an orange grove. And it's a dainty $9.99 for a full 7oz. Cherry on top? Why yes, thank you.
