Your lips are some of the most delicate skin on your face, which means you especially need UV protection. One of the biggest difficulties in finding a mineral sunscreen is the white cast it gives your skin, which is the same problem with a mineral SPF lip balm. Except white lips are even worse. This is why I love Alba's Terra Tints! They have an SPF of 8 (provided by zinc) and have a range of 6 different shades, which hide the white cast and simultaneously give you a little dash of color. Your color choices are: blaze, bloom, dawn, garnet, sienna and sunset.
Typically, I use the shade garnet because it's so similar to my lip color, with just a little more pop.
-Wearing Alba Terra Tints in Garnet-
I've found that the color bloom is just about exactly my lip color. So if I want something understated, this is the tube I opt for. Blaze is a classic red that will give your lips a bright cherry tone. I haven't tried dawn, sienna or sunset yet. Have you? And what do you think?
The application of this lip balm is really flexible. If you dab it on lightly you get a barely there look. But if you apply it heavily the resulting color is very dramatic. It transitions well from day to night.
My only beef with this lip balm is the texture. I shouldn't be surprised that a mineral lip balm feels a little thick and heavy. Nevertheless, it's not as satiny light as the balm I use for moisturizing.
